Mental Health

Bentonville West High School recognizes the importance of mental health and wellness for our students and staff alike.  We address student mental health needs through our Advisory Programming, School Counselors, Student Advocates, Student Support Counselor, and School-Based Therapy.

Advisory Programming

In accordance with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education GUIDE for Life, our staff work to equip students with lifelong skills to help them navigate everyday challenges beyond the classroom.  Advisory is our forum for teaching these skills, as well as college and career transition skills.  Research indicates that advisory programs improve attendance and grades, reduce disciplinary problems, and increase student achievement.  Advisory programs involve all faculty and students, ensuring that each student is known well by at least one adult in the school.  Essential Advisory lessons include, but are not limited to:

  • Bullying Prevention

  • Suicide Awareness and Prevention

  • Substance Abuse Prevention

  • Digital Literacy and Social Media Safety

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Healthy Relationships

School Counselors

Our School Counselors are available to assist students with academic, social/personal, and career/college needs.  Students may schedule a time to meet with their counselor here, by emailing their counselor directly or coming into the Student Life Center to complete a meeting request form.

Student Support Counselor

Each high school employs a licensed mental health professional as the Student Support Counselor.  As a supplement to our School Counseling team, the Student Support Counselor may provide services such as, but not limited to, crisis intervention and follow up, coordinating access to mental health services, providing individual and group intervention, consulting with other school staff on mental health-related issues affecting a student's academic success and developing Social Emotional Learning advisory lessons.  Students may access the Student Support Counselor by appointment as needed.

School-Based Therapy

Bentonville Schools partners with local mental health agencies, allowing therapists to provide individualized therapy to their clients (our students) on our campus during the school day.  This allows students to receive quality mental health care while missing as little class time as possible.  For more information about school-based therapy options, contact your student's School Counselor or the Student Support Counselor.  Our school-based therapy providers include:

Ozark Guidance/Arisa Health (OGC)

Eason and Associates

Friendship Community Care/Connections
