Student Performance Guides
Arkansas Teaching & Learning Assessment System (ATLAS)
Most students in Arkansas schools, including Bentonville schools, complete one or more Atlas assessments each school year. In the parent portal, the results for all Atlas assessments completed by an individual student are available for parent review. Depending on a student’s grade level, parents may see one or more of the following types of Atlas assessments:
Interim assessments:
Are administered to kindergarten through 8th-grade students in the content areas of math, science, reading, and writing. The reading and writing tests are combined and reported as an “English Language Arts” (ELA) score.
Measure students' knowledge and skills for the full school year. Though students have not received a full year of instruction, the assessment indicates the degree to which students have progressed toward meeting a full year of learning.
Student performance is reported with an overall, numeric score per test and also one of four “levels” indicating the degree to which students demonstrate understanding of the knowledge and skills expected for that grade. A “Level 1” score indicates students are not demonstrating as expected for their grade
Summative assessments:
Are administered in the content areas of math, science, reading, and writing to current students enrolled in kindergarten through 10th grade (as well as any students enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry or Biology) .
Like the Interim assessments, the reading and writing tests are combined and reported as an “English Language Arts” (ELA) score.
Measure students' knowledge and skills for the full school year.
Are considered a final, end-of-year assessment measuring all expected learning.
Student performance is reported with an overall, numeric score per test and also one of four “levels” indicating the degree to which students demonstrate understanding of the knowledge and skills expected for that grade.
Screener assessments:
Are administered to current kindergarten through third-grade students only
Are a condensed assessment to gauge students skills in foundational areas of literacy and mathematics.
Student performance is reported with an overall, numeric score per test and one of two “levels” indicating the students are “ready” for grade-level learning or not.

Measure of Academic Progress (MAP)
Bentonville Schools administers the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress Growth (or MAP Growth) assessments each year as part of a comprehensive assessment system. NWEA MAP Growth is a nationally normed, standardized achievement test that measures what learners know and informs what they're ready to learn next by using a computer adaptive test that adjusts to the ability and knowledge of the learner. Your child's educator will use the results of the NWEA MAP Growth assessments to better understand your child's individual needs and to help him/her progress in the assessed areas. Because the assessment is a growth measure, it can track the learner's growth between testing events and over multiple years of testing.
All learners in grades K-10 will be evaluated using NWEA MAP Growth assessments in math and reading. For most grade levels, MAP assessments will be given once at the beginning of the school year, once in the middle of the school year, and once at the end of the school year. To see actual assessment dates, please access the district's testing calendars at this link.
