Mrs. Hoisington, Mr. Sheehan, Mrs. Rowan, and Mrs. Johnson hosted the final Film and Editing Club meeting in the library. We were excited to learn from our guests Mr. Damon Epps and Mr. Clint Musslewhite. Their presentation was entitled "Telling Stories." They talked about their respective experiences in sports broadcasting, television production, filming, and editing. The presentation helped culminate our learning about layering of elements, persistence, failure to succeed, and practical tips for filming and editing. We also discussed how film and editing impacts all types of jobs and industries and the importance of story telling through media in all walks of life. Thank you, gentlemen, for investing in our students' (and our leaders') learning.

This month, Mr. Sheehan and Mrs. Hoisington were excited to introduce their students to Jayme Lemons, television and movie producer. Jayme Lemons is a co-founder of Jaywalker Pictures with Laura Dern, on the Arkansas Cinema Society Board of Directors, and is an Arkansas native from Waldron. Her list of accomplishments and work in film and television is extensive. Here are some key takeaways from our time with her: Be persistent; things don’t always work out the way you wish, so you have to keep trying. Try everything. Learn everything. Whatever your passion is, there is something in cinema for you to create and do. Look for strong mentors to show you the way. Build your path; then mentor others. Read ALL the time--reading and story are how you learn. Keep learning new things.

Congratulations to our Old High Middle School Cooking with the Books Division 2 Odyssey Team for completing this year's problem and performing successfully at Regional and State (Virtual) Competition. For this problem, classic cooking took on a new meaning as teams created a performance about an original chef character that was inspired by fictional literary characters and events. Teams selected from selected classic literature and created a gourmet meal based on their chosen book. The performance included a setting from the book that inspired the meal, a team-created cooking gadget, and a dinner party featuring the meal that included a character from the book. Our "Wonkas" showed that creativity and kindness (not profit and greed) are keys to our happiness and building community. Our Division 2 Team placed second at State Competition this year.

Congratulations to our Old High Middle School Cooking with the Books Division I Odyssey Team for completing this year's problem and performing successfully at Regional and State (Virtual) Competition. Our "Secret Gardeners" created an inspiring solution that showed us beauty is throughout us not just on the service, and that, with kindness and a little intentional magic, all problems can be solved. Our Division 1 Team placed fifth at State Competition.

Congratulations to our Old High Middle School AstronOMical Odyssey Team for completing this year's problem and performing successfully at Regional and State (Virtual) Competition. OMers always shoot for the stars, and this problem is no different! Many civilizations have used stories, myths, and legends to explain the stars in the sky and their patterns. In this problem, teams created a humorous performance set in a team-created “historical” civilization that presented constellations and original stories explaining each one. The performance also included a humorous astronomer character with a “stellar” costume, a lighting effect, and a shooting star! Our Division 2 Team placed fifth at State Competition.
