Dear Willowbrook Families,
Welcome Back to School! As we gear up for another exciting year at Willowbrook Elementary, it's time to help our students transition smoothly back into their school routines. The shift from summer fun to structured school days can be a big change for both kids and parents. In this newsletter, we’re sharing some practical tips and ideas to help your family ease into the new school year with confidence and enthusiasm. Let’s work together to make this transition as seamless and stress-free as possible!
As we settle into the new school year, here are some practical tips to help your family establish a routine that supports learning, well-being, and a positive start each day:
Bedtime Routines
: Start winding down at least an hour before bed. Consistent bedtimes help ensure your child gets enough rest.
Healthy Breakfast
: Fuel your child's day with a nutritious breakfast that includes protein, whole grains, and fruits. A balanced meal boosts concentration and energy levels.
Active Mornings
: If possible, encourage biking or walking to school. Physical activity in the morning can energize your child and set a positive tone for the day.
Nightly Prep
: Save time and reduce morning stress by selecting clothes and packing lunches the night before. Involving your child in these tasks can also help them feel more prepared and independent.
Homework Station
: Create a designated homework area with supplies ready to go. A consistent space for studying helps build good habits.
Consistent Wake-Up Time
: Set a regular wake-up time, even on weekends, to help your child’s body adjust to the school routine.
Family Calendar
: Keep a shared calendar for school events, activities, and deadlines. This helps everyone stay organized and reduces last-minute surprises.
Tech-Free Time
: Designate times of the day for tech-free activities, like meals or reading before bed, to promote family bonding and relaxation.
Healthy Snacks
: Stock up on easy, nutritious snacks for after school or busy mornings. This keeps energy levels up and hunger at bay.
Encourage Independence
: Teach your child to take on responsibilities like packing their own backpack or choosing their clothes. It fosters independence and reduces stress.
Tuesday Folders & Homework
In line with Bentonville Schools' guidelines, homework will be sent home every Tuesday in your child's Tuesday folder. This routine helps students develop time management skills and allows families to plan their week accordingly. Homework should be returned the following Monday where teachers will check for completion. Please see the attached BSD flyer.
Looking Ahead: Parent Engagement Plan
We are excited to share our Parent Engagement Plan for this school year. This plan is designed to enhance communication, increase involvement, and foster a stronger sense of community within our school. We believe that active parent engagement is crucial for student success, and we have outlined several initiatives to facilitate this. You can view the Willowbrook Parent Engagement Plan on our district website and it is attached for your convenience. Here
