The Bentonville Garden Club volunteers met with Mrs. Sutterfield to work on fulfilling the WJHS spring semester wishlist. The list included a lively discussion of the monarch butterfly’s migration patterns. Mrs. Brown has first hand information and photos of her trip to deep into the forests of Central Mexico to see the wintering nests of the monarch butterflies. The students requested a gallery tour to Crystal Bridges. They also asked for guest speakers on the topics of Pollinators and butterflies, back yard birds and the Firefly Sanctuary at Coler Bike Preserve. Plus they wanted to learn how to grow healthy food in their Learning Garden. And they requested a return visit from their favorite chef- Chef Helen Lampkin who teaches them how to cook healthy food!

The Garden Club is back with one of their most requested activities- the paper white stone garden! Our amazing Garden Club hosts provided colorful stones and bulbs for this wonderful indoor endeavor. The bulbs will bloom in 4 weeks. One Garden Club activity left in 2024!

What a wonderful first semester of Garden Club! The group prepped for winter in the latest meeting, selected their spring semester activities, and had some delicious cookies!

Our trip to Crystal Bridges was very engaging for kids today! Here’s our teacher team who provided supervision. A special shoutout to Ms. Ford for organizing this great day for kids!

One of Bentonville's finest right here! Corporal Melissa Fox is the school resource officer at Washington Junior High School. WJHS eighth-grader Jacoby Hook nominated her for the Extra Mile Award. In his nomination, Jacoby wrote, "Officer Fox is always encouraging and helpful. Even outside of school, she always goes out of her way to speak to me.” Cpl. Fox said the most important thing she does is make students feel seen. "Serving as an SRO involves being an unofficial counselor,” Cpl. Fox said. “I’m thankful I’ve been allowed to pour into these young lives and, ultimately, find common ground with them,” she told us. Cpl. Fox began her law enforcement career in Salt Lake City but grew up in Los Angeles. As a child, she noticed law enforcement always ran to danger. She admired their commitment to sacrifice for something bigger than themselves. She works daily to model the best of law enforcement, gaining students' trust along the way. You're family, Cpl. Fox! Thank you for going the Extra Mile! #whereexcellencelives
