Internship Spotlight: Landon Schulz, a graduate of our Architecture/CAD program, had the coveted opportunity to intern at Harrison French & Associates, a local and notable architecture and engineering firm. We're so proud of Landon and this great accomplishment!
One of Hope's responsibilities involved conducting research, where she had to find specific examples of similar cases and relevant laws. This experience taught her research skills, which she acknowledged as crucial for her future career in law. Additionally, she familiarized herself with the procedural aspects of preparing legal documents and learned how to manage office equipment, such as creating copies for depositions, which broadened her practical knowledge.
Another aspect of Hope's internship included organizing case files and binders, which required meticulous attention to detail and improved her organizational skills. She also handled data entry, drafted and edited documents, delivered court pleadings, and prepared for trials, offering her a comprehensive insight into the workings of a law office. She successfully met the challenges, boosting her confidence. Overall, the internship equipped her with practical skills and an understanding of legal operations, paving the way for her future endeavors in law.

Darby organized the back room, ensuring efficiency for product review processes. This organization facilitated product evaluation against Walmart's standards and customer expectations, expediting decisions. By prioritizing organization, Darby not only ensured quick access to products but also contributed to informed decision-making, thus saving valuable time and enhancing customer satisfaction. Her proactive approach to maintaining product presentation on the Walmart website demonstrates her commitment to quality assurance and customer experience, laying a solid foundation for her future efforts.
One impactful experience she had was when she participated in a project to decorate a golf cart for a fundraiser, aiming to sponsor children for Christmas. Their efforts resulted in an impressive amount of money raised, alongside valuable networking connections. Beyond the financial success, Darby cherished the community spirit cultivated, recognizing the impact on the lives of children and the community. This experience underscored the significance of networking, directly relevant to her role as a Walmart broker, where she aims to leverage these skills to support smaller companies and foster meaningful client relationships.

During her internship at Core Architects, Caitlynn Bublitz took on various responsibilities including finalizing architectural schedules, organizing them meticulously, and adding finishing touches. Beyond the office tasks, Caitlynn also had the opportunity to engage with the community alongside her colleagues. One notable experience involved leading other high school students on an architecture tour of prominent local landmarks like The Walmart Amp, Pepsico Building, and the General Mills building. This outreach not only fostered a sense of community involvement but also provided valuable practice in social interaction, complementing her architectural learning.
One standout project Caitlynn contributed to was creating layout sketches for the Women’s Health Association's new space. Spending three days meticulously crafting floor plans by hand before transitioning to digital formats showcased her dedication to precision and attention to detail. Additionally, participating in walk-throughs with experienced architects offered invaluable insights into project evaluation and quality control. By actively engaging in these processes, Caitlynn honed her skills in identifying and addressing potential issues, ensuring her readiness for the challenges of the professional architecture world.

During this school year, Karson Powell had the opportunity to intern at the Peel Compton Foundation, a nonprofit organization, where he honed various essential skills. He was responsible for revising marketing material, putting together social media posts, capturing photos and creating reels for Instagram and Facebook, and working on marketing campaigns. This role enhanced his adaptability and readiness for unexpected tasks. Writing blog posts for the website taught Karson how content presentation can influence consumer perception.
Another important part of Karson's internship was meeting with various teams and learning about the foundation's operations. This experience helped him build meaningful connections and develop interpersonal skills that will benefit him in his future career. Regularly meeting new people expanded his professional network and reinforced the importance of effective communication. Overall, this internship prepared Karson for various challenges and opportunities in the professional world.

Yawp Literary Magazine was recently named the top public high school literary magazine in Arkansas by the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association! Volume 4 of the yearly publication earned a rating of "Superior" and received a higher overall score than the traditional pace setters for the state, Fayetteville High School's "Connotations" and "The Labyrinth" from Little Rock Central. You can count the number of volumes Yawp has produced on one hand, but they're already establishing themselves as a force in the statewide lit mag scene.
