Ms. Andrea Buck’s NWACC Child Growth and Development classes had the opportunity to visit Mercy Hospital’s Labor & Delivery and NICU units last week. During the visit, students engaged with a team of medical professionals and learned about the labor and delivery process, postpartum care, and the specialized needs of NICU infants. An anesthesiologist also provided an informative overview of how epidurals are administered. Students were able to explore medical training tools such as infant simulators and cesarean section practice models, as well as view some of the equipment that is used to save the lives of some of the smallest babies delivered in our community.

Students in Coach Teresa Thompson’s anatomy class are diving deep into the human body—literally! Using detailed muscle man models, they are working hands-on to label body cavities, apply directional terminology, and master regional body terms. While the material is challenging, students are pushing beyond their comfort zones, showing resilience, and truly "gritting it out" as they build a strong foundation in human anatomy.

Mr. Zach Jostad's AP Literature & Composition students were given an intentionally vague task: Create something that represents the structure of their most recent short story while maintaining the overall function of that structure. Between original musical compositions, video sketches, mixed media creations, at least one Rube Goldberg machine, and traditionally composed artist statements explaining their work, the results did not disappoint! Thanks to @bstabs for the Quickfire Challenge inspiration!

They have spent the last three weeks researching and analyzing plays to determine what show they will produce. Last week, they had their first concept meeting to determine their artistic vision, assign leadership roles, and begin the design process.
