First graders are wrapping up their unit on Early World Civilizations. The students wrote their names using hieroglyphics. They crumpled up brown paper so they could write on "papyrus". Then they learned about Pharaohs and made headdresses!
Our kindergators helped plant 20,000 tulip bulbs at True Colors Farm by PerspectAbility last week! Our amazing student council members joined in to help too. We are so happy our student had the opportunity to join in on this important community project!
Time to celebrate! Central Park Elementary was recognized for being in the top 5% of all public schools in Arkansas for performance last year. We could not be more proud of our entire school family for this amazing accomplishment!
As part of their learning about the Middle Ages, 4th graders made index card castles, catapults, knight shields, stained glass art, and crowns. What a fun unit of study this has been for the students!
The staff costumes were so great today!
Our first gator gatherings of the year were so much fun! Thank you to Mrs. Wrona's class for teaching us all about plants today. I mean could these kindergators be any cuter?! Also, a big shoutout to Mrs. McGinnis for creating an art display to showcase some amazing artists. We can't wait to celebrate again next month!
Introducing our kindergarten and first grade learner profile award winners for October! Way to go, little gators!
Congratulations to all of our second through fourth grade learner profile award winners today! We are so proud of your hard work. Thank you for being leaders and showing others what being a gator is all about!
These four ladies demonstrated one of our learner profiles in the first quarter by being knowledge seekers. They are always looking for ways to grow and learn so they participated in the Bentonville Schools Leaders Network. Mrs. Smith worked with a team to develop the program for K-12 teachers across the district. Counselor Amanda Williams, second grade teacher Robin Benson, and PE teacher Ashlee Lunsford joined the network to grow their skills as school leaders. They learned new strategies to implement in their professional learning communities, and had the wonderful opportunity to connect with and learn from educators from other schools. Way to go, ladies!
We hope everyone is enjoying Fall Break today! Our kindergarteners had the chance to go to the pumpkin patch last week and it looks like they had a blast! They are eager to share about everything they learned on this amazing hands-on trip. More pictures from other classes coming soon!
In PE every grade is working on strengthening their fine motor skills and their hand-eye coordination. Students were challenged with picking up cotton balls with clothespins or picking up marbles with a spoon. Students also enjoyed playing Speedway and Pursuit which worked on different types of pacing (fast, medium, and slow) and relays.
3rd grade ended their Unit 2 reading unit on Animal classifications. Students got to read each other’s writing and give feedback to each other while enjoying some animal-themed snacks. Fun times!!
Mrs. Shoemaker introduced the kindergarten unit about pushes and pulls by having students experiment with making different kinds of ramps for matchbox cars. We love seeing engaged learners getting hands-on experience in class!
Picture day is next Tuesday, October 3rd.
Today, kindergarteners in Miss Overdorf’s class learned all about the life of Ray Charles. He was a remarkable musician who was blind and used braille to read! We created a timeline of Ray Charles’ life, learned all about braille, and even got to make braille names!
Central Park students wearing their red, white, and blue for Constitution Day!
Fourth grade scientists have been testing hypotheses this week. What makes hydrogen peroxide bubble?
Friday, September 15th will be a spirit day. Students can wear Red, White, Blue to celebrate Constitution Day.
Also, the PTO will be selling spirit sticks, keychains, and Smencils in the morning before school. Students may bring money and shop at the carts stationed in their hallway.
Students have been learning all about Finland in Global Connections! For their project, they recreated the beautiful Northern Lights using chalk. So cool!
Our 2nd-4th graders had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the Natural's baseball game last weekend. They sang so well under Mrs. Ginger's direction, and so many of our school families enjoyed a great night at the ballpark.
